Jan up for the cup
Jan Vertonghen sees the FA Cup as 'the most important national cup in the world'.
The defender who has made such an impression since his arrival from Ajax in the summer is preparing - if selected - for his first taste of the competition as we take on Coventry City in the third round at the Lane on Saturday.
"It’s a very important competition," said Jan. "I think the FA Cup is the most important national cup in the world.
"Everyone talks about the FA Cup. I won the Dutch Cup with Ajax, but this is different.
"The guys have told me all about it and players like Vincent Kompany (who captained City to win the FA Cup in 2011), they’ve told me about the FA Cup. It would be amazing to play in the final."
Jan already has a taste of what we'd describe as a 'typical English cup-tie' when he scored in our League Cup win at Carlisle in September.
"I’m glad we play at home, that’s an advantage for us," said Jan.
"We’ll be strong at home with the crowd behind us and away games in the FA Cup become the most important games for the home team, like it was at Carlisle in the League Cup.
"You see the atmosphere when you go into the stadiums of the lower league teams.
"We have to be careful, because Coventry will be on the top of their form. We will be focused, because we want to go as far as possible in the FA Cup. We’ll be ready."
