Jan Vertonghen had mixed emotions after returning to action at Hull.
Naturally delighted to be back in action after close to a two-month lay-off, Jan’s overwhelming feeling was one of disappointment after the 1-1 draw at the KC Stadium.
We started slowly and the home team capitalised via Shane Long’s goal in the 15th minute.
We were on the front foot by midway through the first half and stepped up again after the break, Paulinho equalising just after the hour mark.
Jan had one of a number of half-chances when he curled a free-kick just wide but despite ending the match with a 19-9 shot count in our favour, it stayed all-square.
“We wanted to win this game and it’s a shame we couldn’t score again and come back with the three points,” said Jan.
“We have to bounce back next week in an important game against Everton. We have to be ready for that.
“For myself, I was happy to be back and I felt more confident in the second half.
“I want to finish the season strongly now. Hull was my first game in two months, I don’t suppose you can expect to win everything and play every ball to the right player in the first game, but I’m back and getting stronger.”
