Jan ready for Dempsey duel in Denver

Jan Vertonghen expects a tough duel when he comes up against former team-mate Clint Dempsey in the MLS All-Stars game in Colorado next week.
We jet off to the States tomorrow (Sunday, July 26) in advance of the prestigious clash at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Wednesday night, which will see two ex-Spurs players in Clint and Robbie Keane lining up against us.
Jan, who joined the Club along with Clint in the summer of 2012 and spent one season in the team with him before the latter’s departure to Seattle Sounders, says the clash promises to be a useful test for us as we continue our build-up to the new Premier League season.
And, with Clint rattling in the goals for the US national team at the CONCACAF Gold Cup over the last fortnight, he expects to come up against an in-form All-Stars strike-force in Denver.
“It will be great to play against Clint. He’s a good guy, a very good player and I haven’t seen him in a while so I’m looking forward to it,” said Jan.
“We know he can score goals but we will try to stop him this week. It’ll certainly be a test to play against him and it’s sure to be another quality game for us. We’ve never faced the All-Stars before so it will be a great occasion for us as players and for the fans.
“It’s another game as we build towards the first match of the season, so hopefully we can get some more minutes and match fitness under our belts.”
