Jamie wary of the hype

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Jamie Redknapp is refusing to get too carried away after completing his first Premiership outing since last October.

The midfielder was outstanding on his competitive debut for the club in our opening day 2-2 draw at Everton on Saturday.

His injury problems over recent seasons have been well documented and the 29-year-old knows all too well of the pitfalls of looking too far ahead.

Jamie reflected at Spurs Lodge: "You don't want to get too excited or say too many things because unfortunately I've been kicked in the teeth too many times in this game.

"Things are going so well at the moment and I'm loving every minute of it here. I just want to stay fit. That might not seem a lot to ask but it has been, unfortunately."

Jamie's reappearance in the top flight has been a long time coming.

His last Premiership game for Liverpool was at Charlton on October 27, 2001 and he was only permitted to play reserve team football upon joining us after transfer deadline day last April.

"Of course you miss it, the buzz of playing," he said. "It was great to play against Lazio, my first game at White Hart Lane.

"It's been a long time and feels a long time since I've been here as well but I really enjoyed it and I thought we were unlucky to lose a goal in the last nine minutes. If we'd have held on it would have been a great three points.

"It's always a little cagey the first game, you don't want to give anything away, you certainly don't want to get beaten because then you are under a bit of pressure.

"I didn't think we gave them too much, they scored with their best chance of the first half and they had a couple more but if our passing had been a little better we would have beaten them.

"Perhaps a draw was a fair result if we're honest but the disappointing thing was we were nine minutes away from three points."

Jamie is certainly positive about the season and the squad - when everyone is fit.

He added: "I'm looking forward to playing wirth Carry especially, a great footballer, Ledley King is coming back, Darren Anderton, Christian, Steffen Freund, I heard a lot about him last season.

"We've just got to get those players fit and we've got a good squad here, we really have. It will happen soon. Gus as well, he will only be a few weeks. That's great news for us because he's such a threat."
