Jamie up for the Cup

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Academy striker Jamie Slabber is relishing a second crack at FA Youth Cup glory - and the quest begins for Spurs tonight against Portsmouth at Fratton Park, kick-off 7pm.

After scoring 12 goals in 11 appearances for our under-17 side last season, Jamie was promoted to Pat Holland's group and impressed enough to feature in our Youth Cup run which saw the under-18 side reach the semi-final stage before being eliminated by Everton over two legs.

The 17-year-old scored three goals in five appearances during a cup run that took in trips to Walsall, Bolton, Leeds and a home quarter-final encounter with Blackburn.

Jamie is young enough to qualify for another attempt at success in the competition that gives youth players the opportunity to perform the club stadiums and he insists the team are ready for the challenge.

"Everyone is up for it, all guns a blazing and hopefully we'll do well," he grinned.

"I just like playing in front of the crowds at the stadiums and it is a good experience at a young age. Hopefully we can do well and go far again."

The striker, who scored 20 goals in competitive action last season, has fond memories of his elevation to the senior Academy group just over a year ago.

"My confidence was up and I was flying a bit. Pat decided to put me in the team and I just went from there really," he recalled, adding that it will hopefully be an advantage for himself and Marcel McKie having played in the competition before.

"Some of us know what to expect. Marcel and I had experience in it last year and hopefully we can lead the others on.

"I think it's a good strong team, maybe not as physically strong as last season, but more technical.

"We'll deal with it and will be alright - I'm confident."
