Jamie sees a likeness

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Jamie Redknapp says he sees a likeness in the development of Spurs under Glenn Hoddle and the Gerard Houllier revolution he was part of at Anfield.

Houllier took over sole charge from Roy Evans after initially working in tandem, assessed the club's playing strength, later adding reinforcements and gradually altered the culture of the club.

The Frenchman enjoyed the unswerving support of the club's supporters during the period of transition and reward was well and truly reaped last season with the capture of three major trophies, later added to be the Charity Shield and European Super Cup.

Jamie, made captain by Houllier, feels that Spurs could well be treading a similar track on the route to a hopefully similar outcome. He states that it can only be a great help that Glenn enjoys a similar backing from the Spurs faithful that Houllier receives at Liverpool.

"I do, I think so," said Jamie of the comparision. "There are some good young players here. The base of the club is there and everybody is behind the manager. It is a good thing because, from what I can gather, some managers haven't had the backing of the fans.

"Everyone is really behind the gaffer here though and that helps. It helps when you've got good players as well.

"This year Tottenham could have got some silverware. For some reason or another, a little bit of luck or perhaps couldn't kill teams off.

"There is a lot of resemblence between Liverpool a couple of years ago and Tottenham now."

Are there also similarities between his managers past and present?

"They are both big thinkers about the game. The difference being that Glenn played at the top level and Gerard didn't. It doesn't seem to have mattered, but that is the one big difference between them."

Under previous Liverpool boss Roy Evans, Jamie relished playing in the 3-5-2 system that Glenn has employed for much of this season and feels his know-how of the formation could stand him in good stead.

"Definitely. It was a bit like the gaffer does here now with the 3-5-2.

"We had good wing-backs and a strong midfield. Me and John Barnes used to sit deep with McManaman in front of us and we used to give him the ball to run with.

"It was good, it was exciting to play."
