Jamie off the mark

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

It's been quite a week for Jamie Slabber - his first 'official' goal for our reserves followed by his first call into a Premiership squad for Sunday's visit of Liverpool.

The young striker, still just 18, has joined U19 and reserve team-mate Dean Marney in Glenn Hoddle's 18-man squad to face the Reds.

It comes after he netted in the reserves' 2-0 win over Chelsea at Aldershot on Monday - although he was quick to point out that he has scored for Colin Calderwood's side before.

The second string have played a number of games 'behind closed doors' during the course of the season in which the young striker has found the net, but his superb strike at the Recreation Ground could just mean that little bit more.

"It was my first league goal anyway!" interjected the 18-year-old. "It was nice to get it against Chelsea in a derby - it was good.

Jamie says he is not sure whether the wait to get off the mark in competitive action was proving to be a weight on his shoulders - as he has been his usual prolific self in the under-19s and Youth Cup.

He does suspect that it can only help in his aim to secure a regular spot in Calderwood's plans for the remainder of this and next season.

"I don't know really. Maybe it will give me a bit more confidence and hopefully I've impressed Colin now so I can get more run-outs.

"I want to get into Colin's team and stay there so I can be a regular next season."

For his part, Colin hopes that the goal will provide the spark for Jamie to continue his development within his team.

"It will give him confidence. I saw someone grow into the game, like the majority did. From the start of the game where he was getting beaten in the air, he found a physical presence.

"He produced better things as the game went on and that's got to happen more and more often with him. Hopefully he will develop a real frame that will make it really hard for any defender to play against."
