Jamie completes Saints switch
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
The club can confirm that Jamie Redknapp has completed his transfer to Southampton.
The popular midfielder and club captain leaves the Lane after almost three years, during which time he made 53 first team appearances following his transfer from Liverpool and was appointed skipper after the departure of Teddy Sheringham at the end of season 2002-03.
Chairman Daniel Levy has praised the contribution of the former England international during his time at the Club and wishes him well for the future.
"Jamie has been a outstanding ambassador for our club - during his time with us he has always shown commitment and enthusiasm," commented Daniel. "He proved to be an excellent club captain with his positive attitude and fostering of team spirit.
"We would like to thank Jamie and wish him well at Southampton."
For his part, after a spell on the sidelines, it is a desire for regular football that sees Jamie take his leave.
"I have enjoyed my time at Tottenham but, as the team has developed, there has been a healthy increase in competition for places and I have found myself on the bench more than on the pitch.
"At this stage in my career I want to be playing more so I had a chat with Frank, Martin and the chairman and asked them to let me go.
"They were great about it and Martin even said when I finish playing to come and talk to him and about a coaching role."
Jamie will be at Southampton today for a medical and to agree personal terms.
