Lucky One Hotspur Junior member James Rodgers, aged 14, won himself a very special day at Spurs.
How would you like to watch Spurs play live at the Lane? From an exclusive vantage point in the commentary gantry right on the halfway line? Then attend the post-match press conference plus watch your heroes being interviewed by the press?
This is exactly what One Hotspur Striker Member and aspiring young journalist James Rodgers, aged 14, got to do.
James came along with his Dad John to see Spurs vs Crystal Palace. Read James’s own story of his day below, and his match report here.
James said: “From the minute I heard that I had won the competition there was a broad smile fixed on my face; elation mixed with utter disbelief. Despite my high hopes for the day it somehow managed to surpass all of my expectations and my only wish is that I could do it all again!
“One of the highlights of my day was walking round pitch side, watching the players train and being within touching distance of my heroes. It was wonderful to be in the post-match press conference; I felt like a real journalist and hearing the managers speak was really surreal. I loved having a conversation with the inimitable Sandro and getting my programme signed by Man of the Match Nabil Bentaleb.
“I couldn’t resist sitting in the manager’s seat and imagining myself as Tim or Steffen dictating the team’s tactics. 15 minutes beforehand I actually watched them sit there from the stands. One the things I most enjoyed was helping the commentator and sitting in the awesome gantry, seeing how it all works behind the scenes was really interesting too. Of course watching the mighty Spurs play a fantastic game of football from a superb angle was another high point.
“It was striking to see how inclusive this club is, from the extensive, high quality commentary for the blind to the vast initiatives for Junior Members like me. I was very lucky to have had this amazing experience and feel proud to be a Spurs fan.
“It was amazing to see this superb club from a different perspective, and was an incredible opportunity. It was a day I’ll never forget.”
