Jake takes his chance

Jake Livermore was delighted to get his chance against Hearts - and fully aware of the need to grasp that chance with both hands.

Jake Livermore was delighted to get his chance against Hearts - and fully aware of the need to grasp that chance with both hands.

The young midfielder did just that as we cruised to a 5-0 win in the Europa League play-off, first leg at Tynecastle on Thursday night.

Lining-up in an unfamiliar central partnership with Niko Kranjcar, the pair ran the show from the key battle ground of the Anglo-Scottish tie.

Niko put in a man-of-the-match display and Jake wasn't far behind, a performance that had a bit of everything capped by an outstanding goal.

"All you can do when you are given the chance is do the best you can," recflected Jake, who made his first start against Arsenal in the Carling Cup last season.

"I had the heads-up for a little while that I’d be involved and given a chance in the European games and I’ve been looking forward to it.

"In the bigger picture, it’s great we’ve given ourselves the platform to go through to the next stage of the competition.

"Hopefully it’s also a platform for me to do well and cement a place at Tottenham."

Jake has certainly put in the miles in loan spells to the likes of Peterborough United, Leeds and Ipswich Town over recent seasons, but he now hopes he's here to stay.

"Every team plays a different way but I’ve been brought up to play a certain way at Spurs since I was seven," he added.

"No disrespect to the clubs I’ve been on loan to, but their style of play is slightly different to Spurs. I’d like to think that I fit in at Tottenham and hopefully I can prove that."
