Jacques Santini was happy with the work out against Feyenoord in the Kappa Cup contest staged in Seville on Tuesday evening.
Head Coach Jacques is still being forced to shuffle his pack due to injuries, but was boosted by the return of Michael Brown plus Fredi Kanoute and Jamie Redknapp topping up their fitness levels.
It was a hot and steamy evening in the Olympic Stadium and both coaches felt this had a bearing on the game.
Jacques also insists his focus is not on the outcome of friendly matches but on the Premiership opener against Liverpool on August 14.
"We have played many games and it has been a bit difficult because we have had some injuries to players," he reflected.
"The season starts in under two weeks and this was a good training session for the players. There was a chance for Fredi to make it 2-0 and two minutes later Feyenoord equalised.
"The team did a hard training session in the morning, while the pitch and heat made it difficult to play. I am happy though to have played the match.
"We have used many young players and it is normal that a team like Feyenoord would be stronger in the second half.
"We now play Partizan Belgrade on Thursday, Cagliari on Saturday before returning to Glasgow to play Celtic on Tuesday, but our minds are on August 14. We are looking forward to playing this game in our stadium and we will prepare for this with the games."
Back in club football for the first time since his spell at Newcastle, Ruud Gullit added that the match did not offer much of a form guide.
"It is very difficult to judge. It was so hot for the players," said Gullit. "Tottenham have played a lot of games and it was also difficult for them to play in the conditions. It is very difficult to get the right view of both teams in these circumstances."
Real Betis beat Partizan Belgrade 1-0 in the other semi-final on Tuesday night and will now play Feyenoord in the final.
That means We take on Partizan Belgrade in the third/fourth play-off on Thursday night, kick-off 6.15pm UK.
