Jacko's flip side
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Johnnie Jackson quickly realised on Sunday that top-level football is not all about dramatic match-sealing goals - there is a flip side.
The 21-year-old rightly revelled in the high of scoring his first Premiership goal for the club against Charlton at the Valley two week’s ago but, ten days later, was guilty of a slip that led to Les Ferdinand reducing the deficit for Leicester during the course of the topsy-turvy 4-4 draw at the Lane.
It was a stark illustration of the highs and lows football can produce in such a short space of time for the midfielder who has made such a positive impact in his short spell of first team football so far. However, Johnnie is a realist and knows that the most important game is always the next one.
“It is the only thing I am really going to remember of the Leicester game because five minutes after I made the mistake for their goal I was taken off,” he reflected. “So that will be the lasting memory of that game.
“You are going to get good times and bad times, it is how you bounce back from the bad times that will count.
“It is unbelievable and some of the older boys have said that is how it goes in football. One minute you are getting the glory, next you are a bit of a villain for making a mistake that leads to a goal against.
“It is part of learning the game, I suppose.”
One major encouragement Jacko says he takes from the Leicester encounter is the backing given to him by the fans following his substitution.
“I did notice and it made me feel a lot better, to be honest. I am a young lad and they are giving me support — I made a mistake and they’ve stuck behind me. It was nice and encouraging for me.”
