Jacko's delight

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Johnnie Jackson is thrilled that the club have shown faith in his ability by handing him a new contract - and he had no hesitation in putting pen to paper.

Jacko is considered one of the most promising up-and-coming talents at the Lane, one of the bright young homegrown players that the club hope will graduate with honours from the Academy all the way to the first team.

The England under-18 international hopes to live up to expectation as a reward of faith.

"In handing me a three-year deal the club have showed a lot of faith in me - I'm really, really pleased to have signed it," said a delighted Jacko on Wednesday evening.

"With them showing that sort of faith in me hopefully they might give me a chance, you never know."

Johnnie had a busy time of it last term, featuring regularly for our under-19 side, the reserves and England under-18s. So what are his goals for the new campaign?

"My aim is really to be regularly playing in the reserves and hopefully get a chance on the bench in the first team and then - you never know what could happen then..."

Jacko's favoured position of central midfield, he forged an uncompromising partnership with John Piercy in the reserves, is going to be one of the most hotly contested areas selection-wise in terms of breaking into the first team. Darren Anderton, Simon Davies, Steffen Freund, Tim Sherwood, Oyvind Leonhardsen and Stephen Clemence will all be jostling for a central berth. Not to mention a certain Mr G Poyet.

"It'll be very hard," admitted Jacko. "With Poyet coming in as well, it's going to be difficult. But they've shown faith in me by giving me the contract so I've got a chance."

Johnnie signing on was one of the more straightforward deals that the club will enter into this summer, he did not need much persuading.

"My agent spoke to them while I was on holiday, then I got a phone call from David Pleat saying he wanted to speak to me. It was all sorted so I went and signed it."

Any haggling?

"No, not really, no."
