Jacko following Clem's path
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
John Jackson is happy to follow in Stephen Clemence's footsteps - although he'll aim to step on those feet tomorrow night.
Jacko is set for his fourth appearance when Birmingham City arrive at the Lane after finally making his Premiership debut at Portsmouth on Boxing Day, four years after joining the club as a trainee.
'Clem' took three years to break through and did so in style as a 19-year-old debutant against Manchester United in August 1999. He was a squad regular throughout his Lane career after that, making over 100 appearances until departing for the Blues this time last year.
It would have been more but for a serious knee injury having won a place in the side at the start of the 2001-02 season.
With those Spurs appearances and his career alive and kicking at St Andrews, it's little wonder Jacko hopes he can achieve what Clem has.
"I'm more or less following the same path he took and he's quite a similar player to me as well, a midfielder and left-footed," said Jacko.
"Clem came through the youth system and he was always someone who would look after the younger lads.
"I played with him at reserve level quite a lot and he's definitely a player I looked up to.
"He's been there and done it. There would have been times where he wasstruggling to get in the team, especially when he was a young boy trying to force his way through.
"In those days he wasn't particularly a regular in the side so he knew what the younger lads were going through when he made it. He always encouraged us in training and was a great lad."
Jacko now hopes to face Clem at the Lane on Wednesday night. "I want to be involved in every game now," he added. "Once you get a taste of that type of football, that's all you want to do."
