Iversen's festive cheer

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Steffen Iversen is planning a pre-Christmas return to action after minor surgery on his knee. The Norwegian striker was back at Spurs Lodge and in good spirits after having a section of cartilage removed from his damaged knee.

Iversen, 25 this week, feared the worst when he pulled up in training with pain in the same knee that had caused him all sorts of problems when he first arrived at Spurs.

But things seem to have gone well and initial estimates that he would be six weeks out may not be far off the mark.

Iversen revealed: "I had to take a little of my cartilage out but it was only keyhole surgery so it wasn’t big surgery. It’s been a week now so hopefully another three, maybe four weeks and I should be back on the pitch again.

"I was told it was probably an old injury that I’d had for a while but it came out in one of the training sessions I had. I just had to go in and remove a little cartilage.

"You are always a little sceptical when it is the same knee I’d been struggling with for a while but hopefully it will heal okay and everything will go as planned. We were expecting it to be worse so I’m actually quite happy with it."

Elsewhere on the injury front Steffen Freund expects to be out for at least three weeks with his hamstring problem while Oyvind Leonhardsen, Sol Campbell and Mauricio Taricco are all on the road to recovery.

Boss George Graham said at the weekend that Campbell may only be out for another two weeks and although Leonhardsen is happy with how his hamstring problem is responding to treatment, he could not say when he would return. Taricco is jogging again after groin surgery.
