I've never seen a goal like it - Jan

Jan Vertonghen admitted he was 'stunned' after watching Erik Lamela's wonder goal against Asteras Tripolis on Thursday night.

The defender was right behind Erik as he unleashed a ‘Rabona’ shot, wrapping his left foot around his right and curling the ball into the top corner from 20 yards.

Erik volleyed home a second goal after the break and Harry Kane completed his first senior hat-trick as we ran out 5-1 winners in the Europa League, Group C clash.

Jan and Ben Davies were both seen with their hands on their head moments after Erik’s strike flew in.

“I didn’t know what to do!” Jan told us. “I was watching other players and what they’d just seen. I think the opponents had the same feeling.

“It’s 100 per cent the best goal I’ve seen live. I’ve seen a lot on YouTube but I’ve never seen a goal like this.

“I was stunned. For two minutes I was just thinking about it. It’s a dream to score a goal like that and you may never see a goal like it again. I think the Puskas award is already given now.”

The FIFA Puskas Award is awarded to a player from the men’s or women’s game judged to have scored the best goal of the year.

In terms of the result, Jan said it was ‘job done’ - the win took us joint-top of Group C with Besiktas at the half-way stage.

“We said beforehand that we had to win this game to be in a good position for the last three games,” he added.

Next up in Group C is the return against Asteras at theTheodoros Kolokotronis Stadium, Tripoli on Thursday, November 6.
