'I've joined an amazing club' - Federico

28 August 2014|Tottenham Hotspur

Federico Fazio says he's joined an 'amazing, historic club' as he gets ready for a new chapter in his career here at Spurs.

The Argentine defender, 27, completed his transfer from Sevilla on Wednesday, putting pen to paper on a four-year deal.

Federico made 194 appearances for Sevilla and was a key member of the team that won the Europa League last season, beating Benfica on penalties in the final.

He also won the FIFA Under-20 World Cup with Argentina in 2007 and followed up with Olympic gold in Beijing a year later.

“I know Spurs is an historic club in this country and in this league,” said Federico. “This is a great club and I’m very happy to be here.”

Federico was just 19 when he made the big move from Argentina to Spain in January, 2007.

“Yes, I was very young when I went to Sevilla,” he said. “Argentina is very different from any country in Europe. It was a big change but I was very happy in Sevilla.

“I learned many things about another style of football, another country and another culture.

“Now I’m prepared to change again to another country. England is a very good country and I choose Tottenham, an amazing club. This is the best for me.

“The Premier League is the best in the world. This is a new experience for me. I watch the Premier League on TV and I’m very happy to be here at Tottenham.”

Meanwhile, Federico told us about how he started to study medicine at university before kicking-off his professional football career.

“When I finished school I started to study medicine. I studied for one year, but it’s very difficult to play football at a professional team and study for a career in medicine. I tried and maybe some day I will try to finish.”
