I've been truly blessed - Ledley

Thu 10 April 2014, 15:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Ledley King expects emotions to be running high when he steps back onto the hallowed turf at the Lane for one last time on Monday, May 12.

Our legendary former skipper returns for his Testimonial and will lead a Ledley Guest XI from his playing days to take on the current first team. Kick-off is 8pm.

Ledley made 323 appearances for us during a career that started as a schoolboy at the old indoor ball court at the Lane to lifting the League Cup at Wembley and helping the club into the Champions League in 2010.

He called time on his career in the summer of 2012 and has since relished a new Club Ambassador role, working closely with the Foundation to support a number of projects aimed at creating life-changing opportunities for people in the local community, as well as engaging regularly with the club’s fanbase both home and abroad.

“It’s an honour for me to have the opportunity to step back onto the pitch and thank the fans for all their support over the years,” said Ledley.

“It should be a great night with players I played with throughout my career, some real legends of the game.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time here from a schoolboy at the age of 14, working hard to make my way through the ranks to eventually making my debut at 18 at Anfield. That was a dream come true.

“Once I established myself in the team I felt comfortable and confident in my role at the club and it went from there. It’s such a great place to have played my football. I’ve been truly blessed.

“For me, being captain of the club from a young age, my ambition was always to try to drive the club forward on the pitch and try to bring the club success and as long as I was happy, I was always going to remain a Tottenham player.

“The fans were brilliant to me, the club stood behind through difficult times. It’s a place that’s close my heart and come May 12, I’m sure it will be an emotional night.”
