'It's good to kill games off' - Eric
27 October 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Eric Dier was pleased to see us finish the job after getting ourselves in front at Bournemouth.
Matt Ritchie’s early opener for the hosts was soon cancelled out as a Harry Kane hat-trick, along with goals from Mousa Dembele and Erik Lamela, guided us to a comfortable 5-1 win on Sunday afternoon.
Once again in the thick of the action in holding midfield, Eric underlined how important it was to put the game to bed and guarantee the three points after a succession of draws of late.
“Obviously the first five minutes was disappointing, we weren’t switched on and conceded a sloppy goal, but after that we did really well,” said the England Under-21 international.
“We were disappointed at the start, we should do better than that, especially away from home when we knew the home team would come out firing on all cylinders, so to get back into the game straight away was great and we knew we just had to kill it off and score as many goals as possible.
“Hopefully we’ll keep going now, turn a couple more draws into wins and finish more games off like we did today.”
As for the response to Thursday’s disappointing Europa League defeat in Anderlecht, Eric felt the players addressed the issues from that game well on the south coast.
“Everyone wanted to put it right after Thursday and once we got ahead, we all wanted to kill the game off because that’s what we didn’t do in Anderlecht and we paid for it,” he added.
“We learned our lesson and it showed today. The lads did really well.”
