25 May 2017|Tottenham Hotspur

Heung-Min Son described it as a ‘small world’ as he prepares to face a former team-mate in Hong Kong.

Sonny, Ben Davies, Kyle Walker and Kevin Wimmer flew into Hong Kong today (Thursday) after a whistle-stop tour of Sonny’s home in Seoul, South Korea and will now join the rest of the squad to prepare for Friday’s match against Hong Kong champions and treble-winners Kitchee SC.

In the Kitchee squad, German-born midfielder Zhi-Gin Lam, who came through the ranks at Hamburg SV at the same time Sonny was starting to make an impression at Hamburg in 2011.

Sonny went on to score 20 goals in 78 appearances for Hamburg before joining Bayer Leverkusen and then Spurs in 2015. Lam made 24 appearances for Hamburg before joining Greuther Fürth in 2.Bundesliga and then Kitchee SC in 2016, celebrating a hat-trick last season as his side won the HK title, FA Cup and Sneior Shield.

Now they meet again! “Of course I remember him!” said Sonny, one of our many stars of last season with 21 goals in all competitions. “Then, I was a young player at Hamburg in Germany, aged 18, 19 and we played together.

“He’s a very bright player, quick, intelligent on the ball and I’m excited to see him again. The world is small! I’m really excited to see him again.

“I’ve never been to Hong Kong but I’m really excited to see our supporters, who often stay up through the night to support us, especially for the night games back in England.  I’m excited to play in front of our fans in Hong Kong. I’m sure we will all enjoy it.”
