Christian Eriksen says we’ll have to take the intensity and desire we showed in our New Year’s Day win over Chelsea and amp it up even further to seize Capital One Cup Final honours on Sunday.
Our 5-3 triumph at White Hart Lane at the start of the year is still fresh in the memory of players and fans alike as we prepare to take on the Blues at Wembley.
But Danish international midfielder Christian, who played 90 minutes against Fiorentina in the Europa League on Thursday evening, has warned that the circumstances this weekend are much different to those at the start of the year.
“It will be a completely different game,” he said. “It’s a cup final, there will be different nerves from everyone and it’ll be an intense game.
“I’m looking forward to it and anything could happen. I’m sure Chelsea will want their revenge but we’re ready for that.
“There’s no doubt they will remember New Year’s Day but they are a really strong team and there have been a few games since then. We need to compete again, be even more intense and show even more will to win.”
A Dutch Cup winner with Ajax in 2010, Christian also secured three Eredivisie titles during his time in the Netherlands.
Naturally, he’d love to get his hands on his first piece of English silverware with us this weekend.
“It would mean a lot to win it,” he added. “I got used to winning trophies at Ajax, so it would be great to win something here.”
