'It was the result that mattered' - Ben

Ben Davies came out of his first return to Swansea with “a really important win” – even though he admitted to experiencing unfamiliar emotions before kick-off.

The Welsh left-back joined us from the Swans in the summer and played a key part as we ran out 2-1 winners at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday.

He provided the assist for Christian Eriksen’s 89th-minute winner, having earlier made a decisive challenge to prevent Wilfried Bony from going clean through on goal.

Bony did eventually get on the scoresheet, cancelling out Harry Kane’s early header, but Christian’s late strike saw us leave with maximum points.

It all added up to an eventful afternoon for Ben, who was delighted with the victory at his old stamping ground.

“It was a strange feeling walking out there in different colours but it was the result that mattered at the end of the day,” he said. “We got what we needed and it was a really important win for us.”

On his role in our late decider, he added: “My first aim was to get it to Christian and let him do the rest. It was the first pass I saw and it came off. Thankfully it worked for us.”

Turning his attentions to Wednesday night and our Capital One Cup quarter-final clash with Newcastle United at White Hart Lane, Ben believes we’re in good shape to see off the Magpies as we try to edge closer to a Wembley final.

“It would be nice if we could continue our cup run and it gives us a great chance of a trophy,” he said.

“It’s a really big opportunity for us. We’ve got to be solid and defend well as a team, especially at home. We’ll look to create chances and if we can take advantage of that then I’m confident we’ll go through to the semis.”
