'It was important for me to bounce back and help the team' - Dele

27 February 2017|Tottenham Hotspur

Dele Alli was determined to repay the faith and support of Mauricio Pochettino and his team-mates after seeing red against KAA Gent and did so by doing what he does best - racking up goal number 14 of the season in our fine 4-0 win against Stoke.

The young midfielder was at a low ebb departing Wembley on Thursday night.

His manager and team-mates rallied around and Dele delivered, sliding home our fourth goal from Harry Kane's assist as we ran riot in the first half at the Lane on Sunday.

Below: Dele's speaks to Spurs TV after the win against Stoke

"It’s been a difficult week for me but the Club has shown me a lot of support," said Dele. "I felt horrible straight after that game (against KAA Gent), not just going out of the competition, but also doing that to the team.

"I felt sorry and apologised to the team at half-time, as soon as it happened. I felt horrible and I wanted to bounce back and help the team as much as I could and most importantly, we got the win."

Harry had the taste for goals and had already notched up a hat-trick when he raced clear in first half added time. He could have taken aim for a fourth - he hasn't scored four in a game for us - but opted to hand Dele his goal on a plate, summing up that support Dele spoke about.

"We all back each other, we all help each other as much as we can," he added. "It was important for me that I bounced back and helped the team as much as I could. I felt everyone played well and it was important to do that for the fans as well."

Dele wouldn't have been surprised if Harry had gone for goal. "We had a laugh at half-time because I thought he was going to shoot!" he said.

"He’s a great striker and if he’s not hitting the back of the net, he’s providing assists as well, all the credit to him for my goal as well.

"Harry is someone with a big of magic, someone who can score goals out of nothing. Look at the strike (in the first half) that almost went in the top corner as well. He’s a great striker and deserves all the credit he gets."
