Mauricio Pochettino gave an update on Danny Rose’s fitness on Friday after he returned to action at Real Madrid - hinting that the full-back may be ready to start against West Ham in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
Sidelined for 10 months by a knee injury, Danny was back with a late cameo appearance off the bench at the Bernabeu on Tuesday night to help us secure a 1-1 draw in the Champions League.
Mauricio was asked in Friday’s press conference if Danny was therefore ready start as we return to Premier League action against Liverpool at Wembley on Sunday (4pm).
“He’s not ready to start,” said Mauricio. “He needs to build up his fitness but we are so happy because he’s doing well.
“The possibility for him to be on the bench on Tuesday was important for the team and (for him) to play a few minutes, to start to feel involved and help the team was so important after 10 months.
“Now the process is to build up, try to get better every day and then we’ll see. He might have the possibility to be in the starting 11 on Wednesday, depending on his progress.”
