Irish eyes on Robbie

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

The Irish media travelled to Spurs Lodge to talk to the key figures ahead of our friendly clash with Eircom League champions Bohemians on Tuesday and, although he will not figure on the night, Robbie Keane was understandably the centre of attention.

Robbie is currently out with a knee ligament injury - one which the press corps were happy to discover should not keep him out of the vital Euro 2004 qualifiers against Georgia and Albania - but the striker left them in little doubt as to how content he is in his current environment.

"I am very happy and the most important thing for me is playing football. Regardless of anything else, footballers are happy when they are playing week in, week out.

"I've been fortunate at Spurs to have that opportunity. Of course, you have to be doing well just to stay in the side. It is going well, I am really enjoying my football and I just have to keep playing the way I've been playing."

Robbie said that he feels his switch to the Lane is paying off for him, denying that he might have had a point to prove following relatively short spells at Inter Milan and Leeds.

"No, I just wanted to play every week and this has given me a good opportunity to do well. It is paying off for me.

"I am happy here and hope to stay here for a long time. It is a club that is going places."

One place Robbie hopes the club is heading to is the playing fields of Europe and he states that there is every chance.

"We've got a good chance. It is a good squad here and, if we can stay clear of too many injuries, we've got a great opportunity. We've got the players to do it and it is up to us now."
