Chris Hughton takes a look at the England-Nigeria clash on Wednesday and feels England have two players really starting to make an impact on the tournament.
ENGLAND WILL GO through. I thought the England performance against Argentina was top class.
As World Cups progress you start to look at players and you start to assess players you feel are starting to make an impact.
From the last game I thought Rio Ferdinand was excellent. Defensively England were very, very good, but I think Rio really shone.
Michael Owen is starting to look a real threat. Every time he gets the ball he looks dangerous.
Even picking out just them two, I am really starting to see England progressing further than perhaps I thought they would.
The fact that Nigeria are out of the competition I think means nothing because they've got to get some sort of pride and respect back for themselves and for their nation.
Nobody wants to lose any games, but they can now play the game with a free spirit. Sometimes when you are out of contention the manager might consider playing three or four players that haven't played.
This might not be the case here because the manager won't want to lose. He won't want to go home having lost all three games. The least he will want to say is that 'we got knocked out, but we beat England'.
That is where the pride comes into it and the fact that they are out does mean nothing in terms of making the game any easier.
I see England winning though.
