Internationals - Friday action, Saturday preview
10 October 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
It was a successful Friday night for our lads in qualifying for Euro 2016.
As previously reported , Harry Kane made his first competitive start for England as they saw off Estonia 2-0 at Wembley in Group E.
Harry completed the full game up front while midfielder Dele Alli went on as an 87th-minute substitute for Ross Barkley to mark his senior Three Lions debut (pictured, below). Kyle Walker and Andros Townsend were on the bench for Roy Hodgson’s side.
In Group G, defender Kevin Wimmer was an unused substitute for Austria in their 3-2 victory in Montenegro.
Elsewhere, winger Kenny McEvoy, on loan at Stevenage at present, was on the bench for Republic of Ireland Under-21s as they saw off Lithuania 3-0 in a European qualifier.
A handful of our players will be looking to rubber-stamp their place at next summer’s Euro 2016 finals this evening.
Ben Davies is with Wales as they look for the last two points they need to guarantee qualification from Group B with an away trip to Bosnia-Herzegovina, kick-off 7.45pm UK time. Victory would take Wales into their first major tournament finals since the 1958 World Cup.
At the same time, Belgium can secure qualification from the same group if they win away to Andorra. Toby Alderweireld, Nacer Chadli and Jan Vertonghen are in the Red Devils’ squad.
Elsewhere, Harry Winks and Nathan Oduwa are with England Under-20s in Germany for their second match at the Mercedes-Benz Elite Cup against Turkey, while England Under-19s have Josh Onomah and Kyle Walker-Peters among their number for a European qualifier against Finland.
It’s also a busy period for the US national sides – young defender Cameron Carter-Vickers is with their Under-23s for their CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship semi-final clash with Honduras in Utah, while DeAndre Yedlin – on loan at Sunderland – has once again been included in the US senior squad as they bid to win a place at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup by taking on Mexico in the CONCACAF Cup in California in the early hours of Sunday morning.
