Internationals - disappointment for Young Lions
25 June 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Harry Kane tried a number of shots at goal, but was powerless to prevent England Under-21s from exiting the European Under-21 Championship finals at the hands of Italy on Wednesday evening.
Needing a positive result from their final Group B game to qualify for the semi-finals, Gareth Southgate’s side slumped to a 3-1 defeat – signalling the end of their campaign in Czech Republic.
Harry supplied a defence-splitting pass to send strike partner Danny Ings through on goal in the opening stages, before producing a flying save from Italy goalkeeper Francesco Bardi having expertly controlled a cross-field pass and cut inside onto his right foot at the edge of the box 10 minutes later.
Further attempts followed from our 21-year-old marksman after the interval, by which time Italy were 2-0 up, but after the Young Lions conceded a third goal it was Nathan Redmond who netted a late consolation for England.
Our midfielder, Tom Carroll, was an unused substitute as the Young Lions finished fourth in their group with three points.
