Internationals - Big win for Hugo

09 June 2014|Tottenham Hotspur

Hugo Lloris and France made it a clean sweep of victories for our players on the international scene at the weekend.

Les Bleus thrashed Jamaica 8-0 in their last pre-World Cup warm-up game on Sunday night, with Hugo playing the full match between the sticks.

Indeed, several nations took the opportunity to play their final friendlies over the weekend ahead of the big kick-off in Brazil later this week.

Proceedings for our lads got underway on Friday as Paulinho helped Brazil beat Serbia 1-0, our 25-year-old midfielder starting the game before being withdrawn in the 65th minute.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto, meanwhile, went on as a half-time substitute for Cameroon as they beat Moldova by the same scoreline on Saturday afternoon.

All three of our Belgian internationals then saw action on Saturday evening in a dramatic 1-0 win against Tunisia. Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele played 90 minutes, while Nacer Chadli went on as a 62nd minute substitute.

A severe hail storm saw the match held up for around 40 minutes and, after play was eventually resumed, it was Nacer who got the vital assist for Dries Mertens’ 89th minute winner. Tunisia had earlier been reduced to 10 men when Issam Jemaa picked up a second yellow card.
