International wins for quartet

Hugo Lloris, Jan Vertonghen, Nacer Chadli and Mousa Dembele all tasted victory on the international stage on Thursday night.

Hugo was in goal for France as they registered a 1-0 home win over Spain in an international friendly, Loic Remy grabbing the deciding goal 17 minutes from time after Les Bleus had earlier seen an effort ruled out for off-side.

Hugo was forced to deny Paco Alcacer in the closing moments as Spain searched in vain for a late leveller.

Elsewhere, Jan started for Belgium while Nacer and Mousa went on as second half substitutes as the Red Devils beat Australia 2-0 in a friendly.

Goals from Dries Mertens and Axel Witsel either side of half-time secured the result, with Chadli in particular causing the Australian defence problems following his introduction and playing a key role in the build-up to Witsel’s strike.

Elsewhere, goalkeeper Jordan Archer was unfortunate to concede a late leveller as Scotland Under-21s drew 1-1 away to Slovakia in a European Under-21 Championship qualifier.

With his side in front courtesy of Ryan Fraser’s effort mid-way through the second half, Jordan – currently on loan at Northampton Town – was finally beaten by Ondrej Duda in the 90th minute of the match, having earlier made two good saves to deny the attacker.
