International round-up

19 June 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Tom Carroll, Harry Kane and Alex Pritchard all saw action for England Under-21s in Thursday night’s narrow loss to Portugal at the European Under-21 Championship finals in Czech Republic.

Joao Mario’s 57th-minute strike inflicted a 1-0 defeat on the Young Lions in their Group B opener.

Striker Harry – who went close with a couple of long-range shots towards the end of the first half – completed the full match while midfielder Tom also started, before being replaced by Alex 11 minutes from time.

Indeed, the latter proved a lively influence off the bench, immediately setting up Harry for a low shot that was saved by Portugal goalkeeper Jose Sa and later going close to finding an equaliser himself on a couple of occasions.

Ultimately, though, England left empty-handed. They face Sweden in their second group match on Sunday, kick-off 5pm UK time (6pm local time).

Saturday sees Milos Veljkovic’s Serbia Under-20 side take on Brazil in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup Final in New Zealand, kick-off 6am UK time (5pm local time), while Erik Lamela is in Argentina’s squad for their final Group B match at the Copa America in Chile – Jamaica providing their opposition. Kick-off is at 10.30pm UK time.
