In the script
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Clive Allen conceded it was almost inevitable that goalkeeper Robert Burch would emerge as West Ham's hero as last night's reserve clash at Upton Park finished in a 2-2 draw.
Burchy, on loan from us to the Hammers for a month, saved a late penalty from his good friend Jamie Slabber to deny us victory in the Barclays Premier Reserve League encounter.
Playing as well as we've played all season, we dominated the first 70 minutes and forged into a 2-0 lead with fine strikes from Mark Yeates and Jamie Slabber.
West Ham found a way back via a controversial penalty with 20 minutes left and equalised seven minutes later.
But there was still a chance to win it three minutes from time when we were awarded a penalty for handball. Up stepped Slabber only for Burch to palm the ball out to his left.
The irony wasn't lost on coach Clive. "It's amazing," he said, shaking his head afterwards.
"I suppose the script was written that Burchy stands up against Slabs, I know they are good friends, he guesses and goes the right way. In terms of the way the game went, that was always the likely scenario.
"It's disappointing because we were up against against very strong opposition and played exceptionally well.
"We went in at half-time and I was very happy. We had no problems and could have been further in front, so the real disappointment is that we didn't close the game out.
"That's all we wanted - we were well in control but we just wanted to go on and win it well."
