'Important not to lose' - Hugo on Blues stalemate
30 November 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Hugo Lloris felt we earned “a good point” against Chelsea – and put his fine save from Eden Hazard down to instinct.
Our French international goalkeeper kept his clean sheet intact when he turned Hazard’s fierce angled drive low around his left-hand post in the second half of a game that yielded few clear chances at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Ultimately, with neither side able to find a breakthrough, the match ended goalless and we shared the spoils with the reigning champions.
Hugo saluted the way we went about our business in the wake of Thursday’s long-haul Europa League trip to Azerbaijan, but was typically modest about his own contributions to a game he admitted the players were disappointed not to win.
“If you look at the context it’s a good point, but even with the tiredness in our side we were better than them,” he said.
“We showed more qualities. We tried to play but unfortunately we couldn’t score and the feeling in the changing room is one of disappointment.
“On the pitch we feel that, despite the European game, we had control of the match. We weren’t as fresh as we normally are but at the end of the day when you can’t win it’s important not to lose.”
On his key save, he added: “It happened really quickly and I was more focused on the challenge in the air than I was on Hazard. However, because I was in the right position it meant I was able to make the save.
“You don’t really have time to think in those situations, it’s just reactions and that’s where the training comes to the fore.”
