'I'm learning every day' - Eric

05 June 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

‘Learning’ is the key word as Eric Dier reflects on a positive first season at Spurs.

Signed from Sporting Lisbon in the summer, the versatile young defender made an incredible start to his career here and went on to make 36 appearances in all competitions, including 28 in the Premier League.

Turn the clock back to August and Eric lined-up in central defence alongside Younes Kaboul in the Premier League opener at West Ham.

He had to shift to right-back when Kyle Naughton was sent off but then in the last minute, was seen galloping forward to finish his debut in the best style possible, skipping around Adrian to slot home the winner. A week later, he capped his home debut with a goal against QPR.

Safe to say, Eric Dier had arrived!

His versatility has proved a key asset for Mauricio Pochettino, summed-up by the final 15 matches of the Premier League campaign where Eric partnered Jan Vertonghen for seven matches before starting the final six at right-back following injury to Kyle Walker.

“It’s been a good season for me,” he reflected. “I had no idea what to expect when I came here and I'm happy to have played as many games as I have.

“I’ve learned loads. Every game I’m learning from. I’m learning from the players here, I learn in training and from the manager. I’m learning every day and hopefully I’ll keep on improving.

“I feel I’ve a lot more improvement to make before I reach my full potential but playing here should certainly help me achieve that.”

Eric admitted he would have like to have scored more goals - not least after that storming start!

“I would have thought I’d get a couple of goals this season - I wanted to score more! I scored a couple early so I was hoping to get more. I can’t complain, I’m happy with two goals.”
