I'm feeling better with every game - Andros

Andros Townsend feels he’s improving with every game after playing his part in our Capital One Cup victory against Brighton.

The flying winger took the game to the Seagulls as we started on the front foot - registering four efforts at goal inside the opening 10 minutes - and continued to attack full-back Adam Chicksen throughout his 81 minutes on the pitch.

His efforts paid dividend in the 74th minute when his drive to the byline and low cross led to the decisive second goal - Roberto Soldado’s initial effort was saved by Christian Walton but Harry Kane showed his desire to reach the loose ball and slotted home.

Earlier, we finally broke Brighton’s resistance when Erik Lamela combined with Roberto to open the scoring on 54 minutes.

“I know maybe at the moment I’m not playing well enough to break into the Premier League side but I’m feeling better and better and felt sharp tonight, got some good crosses in and hopefully it will all fall into place,” said Andros.

“I just have to keep working hard and be ready when I'm called upon.”

Andros said our fast start was key against the Championship side.

“Brighton’s full-backs go high up the pitch so you know there is going to be space in behind and I think we exploited that well in the first half, that was the plan,” he explained.

“We came in at half-time and the only disappointment was that we didn’t score at least one goal but we controlled the game, it opened up in the second half and we got the two goals.”

Victory sets-up a quarter-final clash against Newcastle at the Lane on the week commencing December 15 - a date has yet to be confirmed.

“It’s another difficult game but if we want to go far in the competition we have to beat Premier League sides and Newcastle will be another step up for us, another test, but one we’ll hopefully come thorough and progress to the semi-finals,” added Andros.
