I'd swap goals for point we deserved - Jan
Jan Vertonghen had no hesitation when insisting: “I’d swap my Anfield double for a point.”
The central defender was so impressive again at both ends against Liverpool - making a couple of textbook challenges and then lethal at the other end with two fine finishes.
Jan headed home Gareth Bale’s cross in front of the Kop to level the scores and then fired home for 2-1 at the start of the second half.
We looked in control at 2-1 but a couple of mistakes saw the tide turn back to the Reds, who secured a 3-2 win and ended our run of 12 matches unbeaten in the Premier League when Steven Gerrard slotted home a penalty in the 83rd minute.
“It was frustrating,” said Jan. “Over the 90 minutes we were better team and of course, I scored twice, but I would rather we’d won this game.
“I’m pleased with my goals but believe me, I would give my goals away to even take a point.
“As I said, I thought we were the better team and I’m disappointed we didn’t get a win or a point because we deserved it.”
