'I loved every minute of it'

Gareth Bale was again modesty personified after another stunning performance against Inter Milan.

Gareth Bale was again modesty personified after another stunning performance against Inter Milan.

Less than a fortnight after scoring a hat-trick at the San Siro, the Welsh wizard stole the show with an arguably even better display to help us secure a famous 3-1 win against the European champions in Group A of the Champions League.

His raids down the left flank left highly-rated full-back Maicon - voted last season's best defender in the Champions League - in a spin.

He tormented the Brazilian international all night and set-up our second and third goals in the second half.

Earlier, Rafa van der Vaart latched onto Luka Modric's fine pass to crucially open the scoring in the 18th minute.

A typical burst and pinpoint cross from Gareth allowed Peter Crouch to slide in the second from close range in the second half.

Samuel Eto'o gave Inter hope with a fine strike 10 minutes from time but we weren't to be denied.

With just two minutes remaining, Gareth took off on another amazing run, covering fully 70 yards before crossing for Roman Pavlyuchenko to tap in for 3-1 and secure one of our most famous wins.

It also left us top of Group A after four of our six matches.

"It was a great occasion and a memorable win for everyone associated with the club," reflected Gareth.

"We deserved to win as well. We know what a good team we are when we're playing well and we showed that tonight.

"We learned from what happened at the San Siro. We got straight on the front foot and built from a good start. We caused them problems all night."

A lot of those problems came from Gareth's ability and sheer appetite to to run at Maicon all night.

"I'm just enjoying my football," he added.

"Whenever we get the ball we look lively and it helps playing in such a good team.

"When the team is playing well, it's easy for me to play well. I loved every minute of it and that's the case, whatever game it is."
