'I didn't have an autograph before this trip!' - Sterling, Son, Janssen and Lloris on HK
Sun 28 May 2017, 11:10|Tottenham Hotspur
As the local fans went crazy for Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane popped in another Spurs goal, it didn’t go unnoticed that another Academy graduate scored his first goal in his first senior Spurs appearance in Hong Kong.
Kazaiah Sterling almost scored with his first touch after coming off the bench against Kitchee SC but wasn’t to be denied his dream debut as he slotted home the final goal of our 4-1 win in added time, a clinical finish from Dele Alli’s pass.
Still only 18, Kazaiah scored 14 goals in 29 appearances last season across Under-18s, UEFA Youth League, FA Youth Cup and Under-23s. That included seven goals in our run to the semi-final of the FAYC.
Reflecting on the trip, Kazaiah told us he'd never signed so many autographs!
Here’s what he had to say about his goal and Hong Kong, along with fellow goalscorers Sonny and Vincent Janssen, plus skipper Hugo Lloris.

On playing, and scoring
“I’m delighted to play my first game with the first team and to score as well. It was a great experience to play in front of a crowd that big (28,000). It was a special moment for me. It’s a good landmark for me to try to kick on now. I’ve had a taste and I’m just going to work as hard as I can again next season.”
On the Hong Kong experience
“It’s been great. I’d never been to Hong Kong before and I didn’t realise there was such a big Tottenham fanbase out here. Overall, I really enjoyed the trip. I’ve never signed so many autographs! Before this tour, I didn’t really have an autograph! I didn’t realise how popular we were out here, especially players like Harry Kane and Dele Alli, as soon as they came out the fans went wild for them. The fans were very welcoming, very enthusiastic and that was great to see.”

On the game and his goal
“It’s always important to perform well in these matches. We played well, won the game and it’s been a good week for us. It was a good last game of the season and it’s always nice to score, so I’m happy. I now have three games with Holland, so I’ll keep going to the end and then it will be time for a break!”

A message to the fans from the captain
“On behalf of the team I would like to say thanks to the fans, we had a great welcome and a great time here. It’s true this game was a friendly but we represent the Club and we tried to give pleasure to all the fans who came to the stadium. It was a good week. It’s true that everywhere in Hong Kong we had great support and people were very respectful to our team and we’re very grateful for that.”

On scoring in front of his Asian fans
“It’s a great night, I was happy to score and I say ‘thanks’ to our Asian fans and Tottenham fans all over the world. Thanks for your amazing support, that’s why we’re here and next season, we look to go forward again.”
