I Confess: Selected sins
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
When I was just a budding Spurs fan back in 1980 I was hanging out of my bedroom window one afternoon looking through my dad’s binoculars. He had just bought them and I found it fun to watch birds in our garden. Suddenly I caught a glimpse at the washing line in the garden two houses down. It was a t-shirt with the crest on the left side and I could tell it was fairly new.
I had only got the odd "pride of london" T-shirt and a home Le Coq Sportif home shirt and so I was desperate to enlarge my Spurs wardrobe! Even at the age of eight!!
The House next door was vacant and so it was no fuss getting into that
garden to get to my pray. However when I dropped over the fence I landed right in front of their kennel and the dog lunged at me only to be held back by his chain.
He went berserk and was barking real loud. I grabbed the T-shirt and started to pull myself over the fence again. In my despair and fear of what would happen if I got caught I wet myself and began to cry.
I still Managed to get home safely because I was lucky that they were not in
anyway. I just thank my lucky stars that that was tied up. In the end when I calmed down I put my wet trousers and pants in the wash and told my Mum that a friend at school gave me the T-shirt. She believed me! But that dog almost scared me to death!!
Mr N Nicholas
May God have a shame on me!!
Back in 1989 my old man "acquired" a box on Arsenal away shirts. When the Gooners won the title I wore one of these shirts and went out on the lash celebrating with them.
In my defence I never had to put my hand in my pocket.
I have been repenting ever since but it is time to come 'out'. I went to Nigel Winterburn's testimonial at Highbury. However it was only to see Gazza if I can include that as mitigating circumstances.
I have to say that coming from where I do, Guildford in Surrey, that the first game my dad took me to see was a local team called Woking. I will never forgive him for that, he even made me have that red and white shirt of theirs on. I told him when I was 10-years-old that I’m Tottenham till I die and don’t make me choose between you and them because you know my answer. He is now a gooner - still we all make mistakes, don’t we?
