'Humbled, delighted' - Stevie P on Hall of Fame
24 March 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
Steve Perryman has spoken about taking his place amongst fellow Spurs greats in the Hall of Fame - and you could still be there to see his induction alongside legendary striker Jimmy Greaves.
We're down to the last few spaces available for this special night at the Lane on Wednesday, April 20.
'Stevie P' and Jimmy are two of our all-time greats.
One of the world's best-ever strikers, Jimmy is our all-time top goalscorer, having netted 266 goals in 379 appearances in the league, FA and League Cups and Europe during his nine years at the club. Signed from AC Milan in December, 1961, he was influential as we retained the FA Cup in 1962 and lifted the European Cup Winners’ Cup the following year – notably scoring in both finals.
A member of England's 1966 World Cup winning squad, he helped us win the FA Cup again in 1967.
An inspirational captain, Steve clocked up a club record 854 appearances for us between 1969-86.
Playing initially in midfield and latterly as part of our defence at right-back, he helped us to victory in the UEFA Cup in 1972 and 1984, the FA Cup in 1981 and 1982 and the League Cup in 1971 and 1973 during his glittering career.
“I have always been proud of my association with Tottenham Hotspur and have never stopped feeling extremely honoured to be the club’s leading appearance maker," said Steve.
"I could never have imagined setting that record when I started out with the club as a schoolboy and even now, as I reflect on the many legendary names that have played for the club, I still find it hard to believe.
"I loved my time as a Spurs player and look back on many happy days there, particularly those cup finals and Euro nights that still send a shiver down my spine when I think back to those wonderful times. It was also a privilege to captain Spurs and to play in front of those marvellous White Hart Lane fans.
“Now I am humbled but delighted at my forthcoming induction into the Spurs Hall of Fame because I am joining a squad that reflects the club’s great history and features such a wonderful array of world class footballers.
"For me it is also special that I am to be inducted with my old pal Jimmy Greaves, to me the best goalscorer this country has ever seen. Sadly, due to his illness, Jimmy won’t be with us on the evening but I am looking forward to it and the chance to join Spurs fans in raising a glass to the great man.
"It’s going to be a memorable evening, the chance to see old friends and to be back at White Hart Lane, my home for so many years. I can’t wait.”
