Hugo shortlisted for UEFA Save of the Season award
27 July 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
Hugo Lloris has seen two of his saves nominated for UEFA’s Save of the Season award.
Our popular French international goalkeeper, captain of club and country, made the shortlist twice for his wonder-stops against Iceland and Germany at Euro 2016.
He is the only player to have more than one nomination in the 2015-16 reckoning, with stops from the likes of Manuel Neuer and Gianluigi Buffon also in the top 10.
The first of Hugo’s saves came in France’s Euro 2016 quarter-final against Iceland, where he somehow kept out Sverrir Ingi Ingason’s close-range header shortly after the hour mark.
The 29-year-old produced further heroics in Les Bleus’ semi-final victory over Germany, making a flying one-handed save to deny Joshua Kimmich in stoppage time.
Fans are being encouraged to vote for the best save, with the winner to be announced prior to the 2016-17 UEFA Champions League group stage draw on August 25.
