Hugo 'outstanding' - legend Ray

Wed 08 October 2014, 16:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Legendary goalkeeper Ray Clemence places Hugo Lloris right at the top of the tree in terms of modern-day goalkeepers.

Rated as one of the best in the world during his playing days at Liverpool, Spurs and England, Ray has tracked the progress of our French international stopper since his arrival from Lyon in the summer of 2013.

Hugo has been in outstanding form for a while now and was there again on Sunday, producing a key save to help us hold onto a 1-0 lead against Southampton.

Ray, who played 330 competitive matches for us between 1981-87, was also back at the Lane on Sunday and looking forward to his induction into our Hall of Fame on Thursday, November 20.

"Hugo has been outstanding,” said Ray, an FA Cup winner here in 1982 and part of the squad that lifted the UEFA Cup in 1984, but injured for the final.

“There were one or two question marks about him from elsewhere when he first came to England because of the sheer physicality of the Premier League but he has dealt with everything.

“For me, he’s certainly one of the best three goalkeepers in the Premier League at this moment in time.”
