Hugo hopes we'll learn from Leicester draw

24 August 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Hugo Lloris had no time for number-crunching in the wake of our 1-1 draw at Leicester City at the weekend.

Honours ended even at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon as Dele Alli’s late goal was cancelled out almost immediately by Riyad Mahrez, leaving us to reflect on a second consecutive score draw following last week’s clash with Stoke – in which we took the lead before being pegged back to 2-2.

The final stats against the Foxes gave us 65.2 per cent of the possession and 19 shots to Leicester’s 13, but the only statistic that mattered to Hugo at the final whistle was the scoreline.

“In football it means nothing – you can have possession, more shots on target, more shots off target, but we are playing football to win and at the end of the game, we need to get the three points,” said our goalkeeper and team captain.

“After going 1-0 up we’ve conceded straight away from kick-off and we really need to improve on that.

“We knew that after we scored our goal we needed to be focused and strong for the next five minutes, but we are disappointed that we conceded.”

Quickly turning his attentions to next Saturday’s meeting with Everton at White Hart Lane, Hugo believes there are still plenty of reasons to be positive as we go in search of our first win of the season.

“I hope we learn quickly after the Leicester game and we will be ready for the next game because it will be very tough,” he added.

“It’s still early in the season. We do a lot of positive things and we need to keep that, correct the negatives to improve the team and be stronger together in order to win games.”
