Hugo hails 'very good performance'

Hugo Lloris was glad that we were able to make a quick recovery after conceding first against Sunderland.

Lee Cattermole seized on a wayward sideways pass and planted the ball home from 25 yards to give the Black Cats an early lead at the Lane on Monday.

But we were swiftly back on level terms through the returning Emmanuel Adebayor – and by the time the second half was over we’d notched another four goals to complete a 5-1 triumph.

Goalkeeper Hugo was buoyed by our comeback and insisted it was important to win the game in style in the wake of last week’s disappointing result.

“We had to bounce back after the bad defeat against Liverpool,” Hugo said. “We had to show respect and pride in front of our fans and so it was important for us to win.

“I think we put on a very good performance. Again we conceded a goal from an individual mistake but we didn’t give up, we still played, and we showed great effort to come back and win the game.”

In addition to the front pairing of Adebayor and Harry Kane hitting the target, Monday again saw us register goals from midfield through Christian Eriksen and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Hugo was delighted to see our firepower emanating from a variety of sources, but he insisted we must show similar standards in front of goal for the remainder of the campaign.

“After the second goal we controlled the game and we continued to go forward and create opportunities to score,” he added.

“When you win 5-1 it’s always good for the confidence for our strikers and our midfielders but we have to keep working, keep our heads high and continue in the same way. We now have five games left and we have ambitions to continue in that way.”
