Chris Hughton takes a look at Sunday's Premiership trip to Wigan.

Chris Hughton takes a look at Sunday's Premiership trip to Wigan.

I WATCHED Wigan at Charlton and thought they were very unlucky to come away with a defeat.

It was very even but going into the last 15, 20 minutes, if any team was going to win the game it was Wigan, but they then conceded a penalty in the final minute.

I think they will be pleased with the 1-1 draw at Villa last time out but they are in a position where they need to pick up points, particularly at home. That will make it doubly difficult for us.

I’m sure they will line-up in a 4-4-2 system. Baines is the consistent one at left-back with two elder statesmen but great professionals in Jackson and De Zeeuw central. Fitz Hall, who most will know as a centre-half, has played at right-back.

The changes this season to last include Skoko and Landzaart in the middle, Martin will know him well from his days in Holland. McCulloch has played down the left with another option Kevin Kilbane, a naturally left footed player.

Taylor has played right-back and right side of midfield and up front it’s Folan, who they saw as quite a steal from Chesterfield and Heskey, who we all know.

Wigan's style of play is generally the same - high tempo, putting you under pressure with good footballers in the side. Perhaps somewhere along the line they haven’t done it as well as last season but on their day they are a very capable team.

At this point it’s about approaching every game in the right way and preparing right, there are no easy games. There will be no going into the last three or four weeks of the season and team thinking ‘we’ve got so and so, we’ll pick up points’ it just doesn’t work that way.
