Chris Hughton takes his regular look at our forthcoming opponents - next up, Blackburn in the Barclays Premiership at Ewood Park on Saturday evening...
BLACKBURN SECURED THEIR first win under new manager Mark Hughes last weekend with a fine win at Fulham. As Mark said afterwards, he felt it was coming and it was a good result, plus they came back from 3-1 down to get a draw against Birmingham the week before.
As a manager you always gage the spirit and mood in the camp, he has always said the mood is good and, if that's the case, you've always got a chance.
To win away to Fulham and perform well, certainly these days, is a good achievement. Irrespective of Fulham's form, it is a very difficult place to go and get a result.
They will certainly have grown in confidence from that and, if I look at it from Mark's point of view, he will believe it is a springboard to really progress now. I would imagine he now feels they are going in the right direction.
I don't think Blackburn have varied their shape too much since Mark's arrival and you look at players that have come back in. Jansen is one that wasn't featuring so much before and he has been a key player in recent games.
Dickov can be a real nuisance and that is his strength - he is a whole hearted player. He has had a few moves, whenever he has become available somebody has taken him and the reason for that is they know what he can bring to a team. He is certainly performing at the moment.
Emerton is playing well, a player I saw a bit of when he was playing for Feyenoord in Holland. I think when he first came he did very well and was very dynamic, but then went through a period when he didn't perform so well. Maybe it was just a change of game with the pace, but he is now back to where he was.
We managed a win the season before last, but Ewood Park is not an easy place to go and get results. We've had some good performances up there and not always the results to go alongside.
You are always looking to turn the tide, we started the season by getting some good results away from home and we definitely want to pick up more away points away than we have in recent seasons. We realise this has been a difficulty for us and it would be nice to get something on Saturday.
