Hughton's notes

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Chris Hughton offers his regular run-down on forthcoming opponents - this time Birmingham City at St Andrews.

BY THEIR STANDARDS Birmingham did not start the season so well, but they have progressively got better. They have been very unfortunate in terms of longer-term injuries - certainly with David Dunn, who is a very good player, and Mikael Forssell was a very big loss for them.

They have improved as the season's gone on and one thing you know about playing them at St Andrews is that it will be a tough game and a very competitive one. They have a very good and vocal crowd who get behind them. They also have a couple of ex-Spurs players who will get a lift from playing us.

Steve Bruce is a very good man-manager, when you talk to his players they speak very highly of him and he is one that can feel the mood of the players. If I look at his teams, they have generally been 4-4-2 and very competitive.

They have, in the past, had players like Robbie Savage who set the tone in the midfield and now have other players who can do that - like Stevie Clemence, Salif Diao or Darren Carter. They certainly enjoy playing the game at a good tempo at their place.

They have always been able to use good wing play, without seeming to be overstretched. An offensive team who have got bodies forward with players in wide areas without becoming exposed in central midfield. Generally the players they've had in the centre are ones that can cover ground and set the tempo of the game.

Walter Pandiani has been added to the mix and, for them to play him in front of Clinton Morrison - who I know from international duty - says he must be a good player. Clinton had forged a good partnership with Emile Heskey and they must see Pandiani as having that extra bit of quality.

You know what you are going to get with Heskey, on his day he is as good a No.9 as there is around. He is powerful, can score goals and I think they feel Pandiani can compliment him.
