Hughton's Notes

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Chris Hughton gives his regular take on forthcoming opponents, the next being Newcastle United who visit the Lane on Sunday...

WE ARE WELL aware of the quality Newcastle have got and how we can play against them. The fact we went up there recently in the FA Cup and put in such a good performance means we will be confident going into the game.

It is a home game for us and we know them, but they are a very good side with good players. Their league form has been up and down but, certainly since Graeme Souness has been there, they have picked up and are still heavily involved in Europe.

With regards to the three players who will be missing on Sunday, they definitely have more than adequate replacements. Jermaine Jenas who is a very, very good player and James Milner have, up to now, not been starting and are of top quality.

I think the lads will be confident with the way they played against Newcastle recently. The biggest thing for the boys now, with seven games left, is that putting together a good run will see us finish in a high position.

After the draw with Birmingham we are well aware that we've got to pick up points. Of course, that means winning your home games and this is the next one - this is what the players are focused on.

To get the points we will have to find a way past a very good goalkeeper. I am very fortunate, if I look at my position here and with the Irish team, I am blessed in working with two of the best keepers around.

I've seen Shay Given at close quarters and, in the games since I've been involved, you can count the mistakes on one hand. Those that have led to goals I am struggling to find. Shay is at that perfect age now for a goalkeeper, he has always been very agile, but can now combine this with the experience of having played in a lot of games.

However, on this occasion, I would settle for him not having the best of games.
