Hughton's notes

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Chris Hughton gives his regular assessment of our next opponents - next up, Newcastle United in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

NEWCASTLE are certainly playing well. After an initial period when Graeme Souness went there where he was finding his feet and deciding which players were going to play and which players he wanted, they are having a very good run at the moment.

What they have had for a few years now is a lot of mobility in the side, particularly in the midfield area and with Robert also playing well, they have a lot of pace and are a very offensive team.

Alan Shearer is always going to score goals, always. You just hope it's not against you. With Shearer, you are guaranteed if he doesn't score this week, he'll score next week.

It's Stephen Carr's second opportunity to play against us, he's been out for a while but he's back to the form we know he's capable of. He would have been frustrated at being out recently. We know him well, an attacking full-back that on his day is as good as any full-back in the country. Another Irish player, Andy O'Brien, has played a lot of games for them and made a lot of progress.

Jean-Alain Boumsong has been a revelation for them since he went there. He's a very strong player who we played against in pre-season at Rangers and I'm sure they didn't want him to go, they knew how valuable he was.

You associate Newcastle more over the years with their attacking flair than as a defensive team but they are certainly strong at the back with Amdy Faye or Nicky Butt in the middle of the park as the more holding midfielder but it's going forward where they have the options and on their day they are as good as anyone.

St James Park is always a very difficult place to go and get a result. But this is an FA Cup game and we have the confidence of having gone there earlier in the season and got a good result.
