HUGHTON'S HIGHBURY HIGHS

Chris Hughton says it's 'the best feeling' to go and win at Highbury - and he speaks from experience.

Chris Hughton says it's 'the best feeling' to go and win at Highbury - and he speaks from experience.

First assistant coach Chris was in the squad but missed out as we won 3-1 at Highbury in 1981-82 but was a used substitute as we won 2-1 in the 1984-85 season.

A Spur in playing and coaching capacity since 1977 barring his brief playing spells at West Ham and Brentford in the early 1990s, Chris admits he'll miss the trip to Highbury for the derby.

"The game has meant so much over the years and as players and coaches we're all aware more than anything of what it means to the supporters," said Chris.

"I'll certainly be disappointed not to be going to Highbury again because I’ve great memories from playing games there up against the likes of Rix, Sansom and Nicholas.

"It's the best feeling to go there and win and that goes back to the supporters again - we know what it means to them.

"It's even more special this time around because there is so much on it."

Pundits are describing Saturday’s early afternoon encounter (12.45pm kick-off) as one of the biggest North London derbies ever - it's certainly hard to disagree that it's the biggest in Premiership terms with both teams vying for fourth place.

Chris added: "It would mean everything for us to go there and get a result because of the stage of the season we're at.

"It would leave us in good shape going into the final two games of the season and then Bolton becomes the biggest game.

"But for us to go and produce at Highbury would mean so much to everyone and we all know that."
